Hui Taumata 2005

Hoea! Hoea! Kia manini te waka!
(Paddle! Paddle! So our waka may fly!)

Following on from the strong consensus at Hui Taumata 2005 for Maori to set the economic development agenda and to forge new partnerships and pathways, individuals and organisations around New Zealand have been taking action in their regions to drive the vision of Maori economic prosperity forward.

The Hui Taumata Action Taskforce has also been set up to initiate projects, research and discussion which will support action in the key areas identified by participants at the Hui. These were:

  • He Tangata, He Tangata: skill development and building Maori capability
  • He Ao Tupu Rawa: building an enterprise culture
  • He Pae Tawhiti: providing high quality strategic information
  • He Tira Paraoa: creating excellence in leadership and governance
  • Tapui hei Whakatupu: increasing the utilisation and development of our collectively owned assets
  • Matauranga Maori: using our indigeneity as a point of difference and a source of creativity and innovation

The Taskforce has taken as its mission: Enhancing the lives of Maori through economic prosperity by accelerating Maori-led economic development.
