Anei ma koutou he pataka korero, ara nga hua i puawaitia mai i reira hei whaihua i nga ra, i nga tau kei mua i a tatou.
On March 1, 2005, 450 people gathered at Te Papa in Wellington for three days of intensive discussion and debate on ways to accelerate Maori economic development and create economic pathways for the generations ahead.
The vision of Hui Taumata 2005 was:
Kia whakamaha ake ngā huarahi Māori ki te Ao Umanga kia hua ai, kia tupu ai, kia toa ai tātou katoa te ao Māori.
To expand Māori economic pathways: Creating, growing and succeeding in our future together - ka hua, ka tupu, ka toa!
A powerful consensus emerged from the three days for Maori to take the lead in setting the agenda for Maori economic development and to seek and build the pathways that will bring prosperity for Maori and New Zealand. Work to drive that vision forward is now continuing through the action of committed individuals and organisations around New Zealand, as well as the Hui Taumata Action Taskforce
