Hui Taumata 2005

Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, a, tēnā koutou katoa.

The first Hui Taumata in 1984 launched 20 years of cultural, educational and economic achievement for Maori.

In 2005, more than 450 people came together at the second Hui Taumata to reflect on these achievements and to forge a vision for the next 20 years and beyond.

Participants at the Hui called for Maori to set the agenda for Maori economic development, and acknowledged economic success as a portal through which our people and our culture will flourish as partners in New Zealand’s future.

Following on from Hui Taumata 2005, individuals and organisations around the country have been taking action to turn the vision of the Hui into reality. The Hui Taumata Action Taskforce has also been established to initiate research, discussion and projects that will drive action in the key areas identified by participants at the Hui.

On this site you can see what Hui Taumata 2005 was all about, and what lies ahead with the Hui Taumata Action Taskforce.

You can also sign up for updates from the Taskforce.
